Fr Mark's progressive Anglo-Catholic take on European Christianity

  • This is my collection of material about the current state of the churches in Europe. I am interested in looking at how they are dealing with the pressing issues of our time: the issues of gay people and women in ministry/ leadership are particularly pressing at the moment, as is the area of declining church attendance.

I would like to see how Europe's traditional religious institutions are coping with the new Europe currently being forged, in which public opinion and ethical attitudes are becoming inceasingly pan-European, and are evidently presenting a series of strong challenges for the churches.

About me

Having originally read theology at Keble College, Oxford, and later been ordained in the Church of England, I am a teacher and Anglican priest.

I spent many years teaching teenagers in various church schools; was a curate in a traditional Anglo-Catholic parish; and was the Anglican chaplain at a detention centre for asylum seekers and illegal immigrants facing removal or deportation.

You may have a ‘lonely position’ Albertus, but you are hardly alone…
I’ve always said it would be the ‘winning’ combination for the Church…the treasuring of lovely and elegant liturgy, coupled naturally with the progressive and constant revealing of the continually expanding message of the Gospels…hold hard your faith, we will seem better times!

May your words fly directly into God’s ear!
There are indeed many in the Church who think like you and me, but the great problem is that, since we are forced into being silent or into simulating, we do not count. It is as if we donot exist, for our insights cannot be made known, except anonymously at friendly internet sites. Hence the marginalisation, loneliness, hopelessness. Veniant tempora meliora!
